We or rather my daughter has a cotton eared marmoset . I don't
believe in monkeys living with humans, thinking they are far better off with
their own kind,. However, in some instances it turns out that monkeys are
not capable of living with their own
Gizmo came to us by accident. My youngest daughter has always
been mad on monkeys and we saw a monkey advertised locally - We went to
look at it and that is all we were supposed to be doing. However, when we
saw it was kept in a small bird cage with no toys we knew we couldn't leave it
there - We have tried to get it back with its own kind but we have
been informed as it has known no other monkeys since a few weeks old they would
turn on it and it would not survive .
We therefore do the best we can to make life interesting for
him- We hide his food so he has to forage for it as he would have to do in
the wild and we regularly change his large cage with different toys and leaves
and wooden perches and let him out from time to time. We have also
managed to source some marmoset food for him and we have a vet who has
specialised in exotics - He has been checked out by her and we have been
told we are doing everything right for him.
He has a special relationship with our dogs which can be seen in
the photos below.
